Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Intelligent Pigs measure pipe wall thickness and metal loss by direct measurement of the thickness of the pipe wall.

Full Most’s partner Dacon is an expert in pipeline pigging and specializes in using Ultrasonic Intelligent Pigging tools to inspect ‘unpiggable’ pipelines. UT Intelligent Pigs are preferred for their smaller size, lighter weight and easier mobilization when it comes to hard to access pipelines or those with no launching and receiving facilities and if the length of the line permits then UT is the preferred option for its higher accuracy and cheaper cost for the customer compared to MFL.

Key Advantages

  • Highly accurate inspection results
  • Small lightweight tools mean easy mobilization
  • Suitable for all pipeline materials
  • Clear and easy to understand data analysis and reports
  • Immediate onsite reports available
  • No wall thickness limitation
  • Can pass 1.5D bends as well as PLEM’s, Flexible Risers and Turrets

Usage and Detection Capabilities

  • On or Offshore, Subsea or Above Ground
  • Petrochemcial, Mining, Heavy Industry
  • Optimised for lines under 50kms in length
  • Detects actual remaining wall thickness with an accuracy of +/- 0.1 mm
  • Detects Corrosion, Dents, Gouging, Lamination and Pitting

Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) tools identify and measure metal loss (corrosion, gouges etc…) through the use of an axially oriented applied magnetic field.

MFL Application Range

  • Oil-gas and water pipelines
  • Carbon steel pipelines
  • Wall thickness range depending on pipe size from 5 up to 25 mm
  • Pressure up to 230 bar
  • Temperature from -5 up to 80°C
  • Length up to 500 km

MFL Tool

  • 25% diameter reduction
  • Bi-directional design
  • Low friction (wheels)
  • Tri-axial Hall sensors
  • Integrated ID/OD
  • Extra High Resolution
  • Current range 6” – 48”
  • Short Radius Bends
  • Multi diameter
  • Low Flow pipelines (< 0.5 m/s)
  • High Flow pipelines (> 4.0 m/s)

The Caliper pig provides a powerful tool and secondary inspection to the Intelligent Pigging.

A caliper tool continuously measures the inside diameter of the pipeline through an array of sensing fingers that are spring loaded to hold them in contact with the pipe wall. As the tool moves through a pipeline all radial sensor movements are detected and recorded. Odometer wheels generate distance data which is continuously collected and stored with the measuring data from the radial sensing fingers.

Key Advantages

  • Detects ovalities and dents
  • Detects valves and bends
  • Detects girth welds and t pieces
  • Can be used in liquid or gas pipelines
  • Can pass 1.5D bends
  • Suitable for any length of pipeline
  • Can be combined with Geometry Pig for 3D mapping of pipelines
  • Established and commonly used inspection method

Usage and Detection Capabilities

  • Accuracy of internal diameter changes +/- 0.1% / 1.22mm
  • Accuracy of dent detection +/- 0.1% / 1.22mm
  • Accuracy of ovality detection +/- 0.1% / 1.22mm
  • Accuracy of girth weld detection +/- 0.1% /1.22mm

 Tools Specifications

  • Tool sizes available: 8”– 64”
  • Wall thickness range: No limit
  • Maximum operating time: 20 hours, expandable
  • Maximum pipe length: 200km, expandable
  • Accuracy of measurement : ± 1%
  • Minimum pipeline bend radius: 1.5D
  • Pumping Media: Liquid or Gas
  • Maximum operating pressure: 300 bars
  • Product temperature range: 0-60°C
  • Operating speed range: 0.5 – 4m/sec
